Tucked away from the bustle of Little India, this mosque was completed in 1910 and recently restored. The main entrance of this mosque boasts an elaborate pediment, the center of which is a sundial. The sunburst has 25 rays, decorated with Arabic calligraphy denoting the names of 25 chosen prophets and is the only one of its kind in the Islamic world.

Also of particular interest is the framed family tree to the left of the prayer area which traces the lineage of Muslim prophets. More details of the mosque can be found on the information cards inside the mosque or on the Heritage markers located outside the mosque.

Marina Barrage

EVOKE YOUR SENSES
The urban reservoir experience is beyond sights and sounds. Brace yourself for a sensory extravaganza …

See the dam’s nine crest gates span all 350m of the mouth of the Marina Channel. Keeping out seawater, it transforms the Marina Basin into a freshwater body. This water, upon further treatment, will
be channeled to various locations in Singapore.

Taste the waterfront life. The Marina Basin waters are constant all year round, making it the ideal spot for waterfront sports and performances.

Touch the pool of water and watch ripples form at the central courtyard. The central courtyard is a playground for all ages. Get ready for a splashing good time!

Smell the tantalising aromas wafting from the eateries on the first storey. Enjoy a light bite or feast on the culinary delights proffered by the assortment of F&B outlets.

Hear the rain pelting over the Marina Barrage model and witness its operations unfold before your very eyes. This is but a part of the interactive exhibition that awaits you at the Sustainable Singapore Gallery.

1. The Barrage / Marina Bridge
The barrage comprises nine steel crest gates, each 30m long, built across the 350m wide Marina Channel. Besides separating seawater from freshwater, it also acts as a tidal barrier to keep out high tides. The 5m tall steel gates can be lowered during heavy rains so that water from the reservoir can be released into the sea.

2. Drainage Pumps
Seven vertical-shaft, axial-flow gigantic pumps, with an individual capacity of 40m3/sec, drain excess storm water into the sea when the storm coincides with high tide. Driven by a 1600kW electric motor, they provide a combined pumping capacity of 280 m3/sec when all seven pumps are operating. Each pump can empty an olympic-sized swimming pool in one minute.

3. Green Roof

Landscaped to integrate with the surrounding environment, the green roof doubles up as a recreational space, open
to public access. It serves as an insulation to lower the temperature of the building.

4. Central Courtyard
The hub of numerous water features and water play areas for visitors, young and old, to get in touch with water and soak in
all the fun.

5. SOLAR PARK
Visit the largest Solar Park in Singapore covering an area of 1,200 m2. The 405 solar panels generate electricity used for
indoor lighting and power points in the Marina Barrage.

6. Sustainable Singapore Gallery
The Sustainable Singapore Gallery showcases Singapore’s efforts and achievements towards environmentally sustainable developments. Located on the second storey, it also illustrates the benefits, signficance, operations and workings of the Marina Barrage. A key feature is the panoramic view offered by the viewing decks.

7. F&B and Retail Outlets
A host of F&B outlets located on the first storey dishes out an exciting dining experience to visitors who yearn for a meal away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The waterfront alfresco dining area overlooks an endless expanse of the sea while the retail outlets are ideal for leisurely shopping.

HELP US KEEP THIS ALIVE!
The future of this reservoir in the city depends on you. It is a highly urbanised area with commercial, residential and light industries found within this catchment. The cleanliness of the waterways leading to the reservoir is therefore, everyone’s prerogative. Will you do your part to keep this experience alive?
